Tips for rapid weight loss: Weight Loss Drinks Part 1

weight loss drinksToday, I’m going to touch briefly on weight loss drinks as one of my tips for rapid weight loss…

After being locked in my home office working mindlessly for the past three days, I decided to take a drive out for dinner. On my way back, I stopped by at a petrol kiosk to pick up some drinks, including two low-fat iced canned mocha and coffee - my favorite drinks before I embarked on losing weight seriously.

So, as I happily resumed work, I opened the can of mocha and drank a mouthful. As I became curious of what the energy of the can may be, I decided to take a good look… and almost spit out the last mouthful that I drank!

Oh my… it was 126kcal for that can of drink. You know, in those days, especially when I take long drives up country, I would pack at least half a dozen cans and probably drink 3 to 4 cans a day - that’s already 400 to 500 kcal; now I know why my weight never went down.

Immediately, I put away that innocent looking low-fat iced mocha for now - well, perhaps I’ll take another sip later…

And this seemingly trivial incident reminded me to share this as one of my tips for rapid weight loss with you: make sure the ‘weight loss’ drinks you take with your meals is between 10 to 20 kcal. Anything more your effort will be wasted though you may eat a small quantity or avoid fatty foods. Now you have been warned. Stay tuned for more tips tomorrow.

3 reasons why diets for quick weight loss won’t work

diets-for-quick-weight-loss1.jpgIn this microwave society, people look for instant solutions to their problems even in the area of weight loss. They look for diets for quick weight loss just like they look for instant coffee or instant noodles. They did not realize that these diets violate fundamental rules like being just liquid, unbalanced or unenjoyable. In this article, we will discuss the reasons why these diets for quick weight loss won’t work.

One of these quick weight loss diets are liquid diets which claim that they work by packing a lot of nutrients and vitamins into them. However, due to the high liquid content, these nutrients tend to be passed away in the urine. That’s probably why these liquid diets are not as effective as they promise. Next, let’s look at solid diets.

Solid food diets usually are of low-carb or low-fat which are unbalanced diets in itself supplemented by some meal replacements. As such, the body might not be given sufficient proportion in certain types of food that’s required for good health.

Even if these quick weight loss diets can work to a certain extent, will it be sustainable in the long term? As you can imagine, it can be quite miserable to just live on liquids alone or just some meal supplements.

Now you know that liquid diets or fad diets are not enjoyable and most likely not sustainable in the long run. If you’re looking to lose weight, you need to look at other permanent weight loss diets.

Water with lemon for weight loss

water with lemon for weight lossEvery morning, I drink water with lemon for weight loss.

Why lemon? I’ll talk about that in a moment…

Firstly, water helps digestion, absorption of food and eliminates residues. It regulates the body temperature as well as gives us a nice skin. I mean - think of it this way – our body is made up of 50 to 70 percent of water. Common sense would tell us to drink enough water each day.

Secondly, water is an essential component for weight loss. It is needed to break down food and convert it to energy in a process known as metabolism. Gladly, two thirds of the world is made of water in abundance. (I couldn’t imagine if we had to pay ten dollars for a glass of water, would you?) Since starting on ‘FatLoss4Idiots’ weight loss plan, I drink so much water these days that now I need to drink something different … Read more »

FatLoss4Idiots: Post-diet Surprise!

lose-weight.jpgThe ‘FatLoss4Idiots’ Diet totally surprised me beyond my expectation…

This morning - 4 days after I completed the 10-day diet - I woke up to a sweet surprise as I lose another slice of fat, reaching my ALL TIME LOW of 80.8 kg!

In fact, I gave myself a break after completing the diet 4 days ago and I was literally eating junk food like laksa (popular spicy noodle soup from Peranakan culture, which is a merger of Chinese and Malay elements found in Malaysia and Singapore) and satay beehoon (translates literally to ‘rice vermicelli in peanut sauce’).

Thus, I actually gained a bit of weight over the last three days… and now, this morning, I lost them all. I can’t tell you how overjoyed I was :-) Click here for more information about this diet.

FatLoss4Idiots: Case Study 1 (Part 3 of 3)

rogerjkt.jpgCase Study 1: Roger Loh (myself) (continue)This is Part 3 of 3 of my own case study which I like to share that documents the results of my Days 9 to 10 as I followed the diet closely and yet not too strictly.During these 2 days, I managed to maintain my body weight since dropping on Day 6…

Day 9 - 6th Apr 2008

Still weighing in at 81.0 kg (or 181 lbs).

Day 10 - 7th Apr 2008

Finally, I reached Day 10. However, the Diet Menu was staring at me with these words: “Begin with Day 1 again”

That being the case, I decided to take a break before doing these 10 days (oops… should be 9 days because Day 10 instructs me to go back to Day 1) .

SUMMARY:

Over the last 10 days, I managed to drop 1.6 kg (3.5lbs). I did not follow the diet nor the exercise strictly - I probably fulfil around 70%.

But the BEST part is that… I was indeed looking forward to food in most of the days - deciding on what to eat in the next meal. It was fun and rewarding because this diet is not totally strict. And I can do the diet any time from beginning - it’s really not hard to follow.

FatLoss4Idiots: Case Study 1 (Part 2 of 3)

rogerjkt.jpgCase Study 1: Roger Loh (myself) (continue)This is Part 2 of 3 of my own case study which I like to share that documents the results of my Days 5 to 8 as I followed the diet closely and yet not too strictly.

During these 4 days, I managed to see a good reduction of my body weight…

Day 5 - 2nd Apr 2008

Still weighing in at 81.6 kg (or 181 lbs) which is the same as Day 4.

Glad I could maintain this weight which is 1 kg (2.2 lbs) lesser than when I started.

Day 6 - 3rd Apr 2008

I jumped with joy when I hit the scales this morning!

This is my ABSOLUTE LOWEST body weight in the last 5 years: weighing in at 81.0 (178.2 lbs)!!!

Can you imagine how happy I was? In fact, I sent out text messages to a few of my close friends and they were all so envious :-)

Day 7 - 4th Apr 2008

Oops…

Got a bit saddened when my weight shot up a few notches up to 81.4 kg (179.1 lbs) :-(

What can I say? I didn’t follow even the light walking exercises recommended. Today I’m going all out to do just that!

Day 8 - 5th Apr 2008

Glad I went back down to 81.0 kg (178.2 lbs) this morning.

I vow to follow the recommended diet of proteins and carbs according to the specified proportions closely.

FatLoss4Idiots: Case Study 1 (Part 1 of 3)

FatLoss4Idiots Case Study 1: Roger Loh (myself)

rogerjkt.jpgI’ve been trying to lose weight for the past year with mild success though I’ve read several books including one by a medical doctor specializing in weight loss.

There’s nothing wrong with what they teach - in fact, I learned a ton of knowledge about weight loss from them. It’s either there is no fixed diet (with just general principles) or the diets are too specific…

Then I chanced upon FatLoss4Idiots which was becoming very popular too. So, I decided to give it a shot and follow the DIET MANUAL that gives a specific 10-day diet and yet allows flexibility in what I choose for my meals.

And that’s exactly what I need - something simple to follow and yet effective (I hope).

This is Part 1 of 3 of my own case study which I like to share that documents the results of my 1st 4 days as I followed the diet closely and yet not too strictly:

Day 1 - 29th Mar 2008

Weighing in at 82.6 kg (or 181.7 lb), I began to follow the this 10-day diet. I ate 4 meals and took a 30-min walk (which fell short of the 45-min that is recommended).

Day 2 - 30th Mar 2008

I was disappointed as my weight actually increased a notch to 82.8 kg (182.1 lb). Feeling frustrated, I still followed the 4 meals but skipped the recommended exercise totally!

Day 3- 31st Mar 2008

Hey… I was a little surprised as my weight dropped to 82.4 kg (181.3 lb) which was even lower than when I started. I resumed and took a 30-min walk.

Day 4 - 1 Apr 2008

Today is April Fool’s Day - but this is NOT a joke… my weight actually plummeted to 81.6 kg (179.5 lb)!

That’s already 2.2 lb in 3 days and I didn’t even follow the diet and exercise strictly :-) And now it seems possible to reach the bold promise of losing 9 lbs in 11 days!!

Well, I’m thoroughly motivated to lose weight now and look forward to the next few days… it’s EXCITING!

Do check out my next post in 3 to 4 days time…

Weight Loss Motivation: If You Can Put It On, You Can Take It Off!

motivation.jpgIf you’re totally overweight, don’t fret because you can surely take off those unwanted pounds which you had put on over the years.

I had a friend who years ago was a skinny man who weighed less than 110 pounds (or 50 kg) while standing at 5 ft 11 in (or 180cm).  In fact, he was so frail that his girlfriend actually wrote him a letter telling him how skinny he was and how he could be blown away like a bamboo stick by a gush of wind!

How mean that bitch was!

But unknowingly, her words cut through him like a sword and remembering the pain that those words caused him, he spent two years in the gym, working out 3 times a week, all by himself, just to put on those pounds that he so badly wanted.

And yes, he succeeded after that two years through commitment and sheer determination.  He became tall, dark and handsome and had many female friends who adored him.

Will listing calories alongside McDonald’s menu help fight weight loss?

burger.jpgNew York City’s new rules for menu labels at chain restaurants — by listing calories alongside McDonald’s menu, for example — have set off a food fight among the nation’s obesity experts.

Set to implement at the end of March 2008, it had balloon into a conflict which is interesting to watch. Which way will the decision go is anybody’s guess. Read more about this in New York Times at:
